As JT Certification Services approaches their first year in business, director and founder Jake Turner continues to provide high quality building certification services and consultancy and inspection services across the Limestone Coast and broader South Australia.
Over the past year, Jake has continued to see a steady growth of new development occurring within Mount Gambier/Berrin and surroundings, and is excited to be part of the future growth.
Born and raised in Mount Gambier/Berrin, Jake started his career with a cabinet maker/joiner apprenticeship, later advancing into concreting and a mixture of carpentry.
After experiencing a traumatic motorbike accident and then some 12 months later suffering heart failure, Jake was left with no choice but to seek alternative career options and took the opportunity to undertake a cadetship at Wattle Range Council in building surveying, which included completing advanced education.
He became an accredited Level 2 Building Surveyor which included switching roles to District Council of Grant where he continued to build on experience and knowledge, before deciding to branch out into the private certification industry.
Given Jake’s relationship with the local building industry and his experience in the profession, he took the opportunity to fill a gap in the certification industry as the service is predominantly only found in metropolitan areas.
JT Certification Services provides a select range of services supporting builders, developers and homeowners alike, ranging from the assessment and certification of proposed plans against the National Construction Code including relevant South Australian building regulations, building inspections and general development application guidance.
Offering his services within the Limestone Coast and beyond, he brings a practical, solution-focused mindset with his background enabling him to effectively bridge the gap between design intent and on-site construction.
“What I do allows me to contribute to the built-environment of the Limestone Coast and then later educate the construction industry regarding building compliance and regulatory requirements,” Jake said.
“Being born and raised in this community, I’m passionate about seeing my hometown prosper – this role allows me to support the growth of the region and support our local construction industry.”
Jake is also a passionate advocate for young people in trades to see the potential for branching out into broader professional opportunities.
“Starting out in a trade, I was unaware of where my career could lead me without discovering it myself and through unfortunate circumstances,” he said.
“I knew I wanted a more challenging but fulfilling career, but I wasn’t sure how to go about it.
“Educating young people to have an understanding of where trade-based roles can take them is really valuable early on and it’s important to me to be able to share my experience and encourage young people entering trades to be more informed of the opportunities beyond their apprenticeship.”
In addition to his current role, Jake is also the co-founder of Proof Tech Pty Ltd, a regulatory technology business, focused on developing a combination of app and web-based platforms designed to support the full development lifecycle.
The digital products will support a broad range of disciplines within the built-environment ranging from site feasibility, documentation compliance, development application management and building inspection records.
The first release for building inspections is looking to be released in the coming month.
