STUDENTS from Reidy Park Primary School will take to the stage this week for their annual musical performance.

This year students from Years 5 and 6 will perform the fun-loving Greatest Showman performance where Pickle’s travelling circus gets their show on the road for the new season.

With trouble ahead including sabotage, theft and new inventions being part of the crazy adventure.

Year 5 student Preston – who plays Branston in the show – said he was looking forward to performing to people in the audience.

“My favourite part is just doing it and the performance in general,” Preston said.

“I just wanted to be part of a musical in general and that was also fun.”

He said one of the most challenging moments in preparing for the event was learning his lines and at what time.

“I am a little bit nervous but it will be fun,” Preston said.

Isla – who plays Herbert in the performance- said she wanted to join in the production after a successful year last year.

The Year 6 student said she liked dancing and acting in front of everyone.

“I did the performance last year and it was so much fun and when I was little I loved watching musicals and always wanted to be in one,” Isla said.

“The biggest challenge is remembering when you have to say your lines because I have about 60 lines to remember.”

She said she was nervous for opening night but it was only the first moments which were nerve wracking.

“My favourte part of my character and what I am looking forward to the most is introducing everyone else,” Isla said.

Year 5 student Gracie – who plays Petunia – said she really enjoyed the embodiment of taking on another character.

“I am really excited to act and say my lines and see how it all flows,” Gracie said.

“I thought it would be exciting to try something new and do something like dancing and acting.”

She said friends and families of the students should come along on opening night despite her biggest challenge being remembering what to say and to speak loud and clear.

“All I need to do is get my first line out of the way and then I will be fine,” Gracie said.

“My character is very melodramatic and over the top which is really fun.”

She said the show will be a great opportunity for her to perform and show the community what students have been working on for a number of weeks.

“We are really proud of what we have been working on and it has been great to follow everyone and share it all,” Gracie said.

The show will be held at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre on Thursday June 27 with tickets available now.
