IT was a far from ideal finish to the minor rounds for Millicent’s Limestone Coast Women’s Football League team.

The Saints’ women travelled to Penola for a meeting with the Eagles on Sunday in what turned into a disheartening loss for the guests.

Millicent suffered a 136-0 point defeat which left plenty to be desired heading into finals next week.

Full-back Amy-Lee Hay was the standout for the side, detering many attempts at goal from the Eagles.

However, she and the remainder of the Millicent defence could not hold back the onlsaught, with a total of 45 shots on goal.

At quarter time the Saints trailed by 23 points, before their opposition stepping up a gear after the change.

An eight-goal blitz in the second quarter left the visitors down by 78 at the long break and from there on it was clear defeat was inevitable.

Courtney Pond, Megan Tilby and Laura Chester put in the hard yards for Millicent and earned themselves a mention in the best players, as did Michelle Robinson and Lauren Potter.

However, despite their best efforts there was little to be done on the day and the Saints will now regroup before heading into this week’s clash.

Millicent will face North Gambier this weekend in the B elimination final in a meeting the Saints will hope bears more fruit.

The last meeting between the sides was in round one, where the Tigers claimed the honours 33-8.

However, with an entire season since that match-up, Millicent will do all in its power to prevent another loss.
