THE Matt’s Plumbing 100-up was contested at the Robe Bowling Club orecently, with both women’s and men’s games close and well contested.
In the women’s competition Barb Brown defeated Maria Cooper in the first round and Robbie Dahler had a forfeit.
In the second round Brown defeated Carolyn McCusker and Dahler defeated Jo Sykes. Dahler defeated Brown in a close and hard-fought final to claim the honours.
In the men’s first round Dean Burgoyne defeated Robbie Lawrie, David Robinson defeated Dean Burgoyne and Errol Jennings defeated Ken Smith.
In the second round Burgoyne defeated Peter Gregory, Robinson defeated Glenn Wright, Jennings defeated Peter deLaine and Ali Douglas defeated Adrian Bermingham. In the semi-finals Burgoyne defeated Robinson and Jennings defeated Douglas to book their finals berth.
The final between was a close affair until Burgoyne got a nine-shot win half way through and that proved the difference.
Burgoyne claimed the win 100 shots to 90.
Social Bowls on Thursday was sponsored by Robe Hair Affair and Robe Golf Shop, with two two-game winners.
Robbie Dahler and Peter Roachock claimed thw in with 57 points, ahead of Dean Woodward and Jim Gray with 55.
The Pennant season began last week with the women’s Division 3 side up against Mount Gambier RSL and Division 2 playing at Lucindale.
Division 2 had a solid away win 54 shots 8 points to Lucindale’s 38, 0.
Judy Phillips, Ann Moore, Pam Robinson and Judy Bermingham defeated Glenda Smith’s team 23-19.
Robbie Dahler, Nola Peel, Barb Brown and Tracey Gray defeated Cheryl Ferguson’s team 31-19.
Division 3 travelled to Mount Gambier RSL and were not so fortunate, returning home with a loss, 57,8 to 39, 0.
Helen Lynch’s team had a close game, in front at lunch and then having a lapse to go down by two shots.
Valma Jennings’ team were never in the hunt, going down by 16 shots.
Ross Dening, Lorraine Dening, Kerrie Boyd and Helen Lynch were defeated by Shirley McIntyre’s team 26-24.
Maria Cooper, Clare deLaine, Kerry Pedlar and Valma Jennings were defeated by Lyn Chirgwin’s team 31-15.
The Men’s Division 1 and Division 2 played at Robe and both teams lost, Division 1 in a nailbiter, 73, 8 to 71, 4.
Errol Jennings, Dean Woodward, David Robinson and Dean Burgoyne defeated Rex Heins’ team 28-23.
Rob Lawrie, Ken Smith, Glenn Wright and Peter Roachock were defeated by Ron Ploenges’ team 19-30.
Patrick Lynch, Peter Gregory, Harold Manton and Steve Farrell defeated Gary Feast’s team 24-20.
In Division 2, Robe 63, 2 were defeated by Mount Gambier RSL 70, 10.
Doug Baker, Paul Truelove, Ross Dening and Jim Gray were defeated by Ian MacIntosh’s team 19-23.
Vic Dawson, Josh Waddell, Jo Sykes and Gordon Brown defeated Graeme Smiths’ team 25-21.
Trevor Wagner, Peter deLaine, Mark Murphy and Adrian Bermingham were defeated by Deane Wilkinson’s team 19-26.
