IN TUNE: The combined music knowledge of The Rolling Crones team paid off as the team took out top spot at the weekend's quiz night.

On Saturday night, more than 200 people attended the second Spicks and Specks fundraiser for local community radio station 5the FM.

Many of the quiz rounds were based on segments from the TV show of the same name with a cameo appearance by Mount Gambier songwriter and musician, Louise Adams, a highlight of the evening.

Ms Adams flawlessly sang sections of several songs while replacing the lyrics with text from random books handed to her by quiz master Jack Lane.

Those books included Jimmy Barnes biography and a ‘70s book titled Everything a Teenage Boy Should Know.

After a competitive evening 5the FM chair, David Walshaw, gave guests an update of the station.

Mr Walshaw said the station was still awaiting the outcome of their Australian Community and Media Authority licence application.

“Our current licence expires June 27,” he said.

“That was a temporary 12-month licence and we are hoping to get a long-term licence for this next round.”

Mount Gambier radio station Triple M was acknowledged for its gift of mixing consoles after changing to a digital only format.

“It has brought our station into the 21st century, which is fantastic.

“You will hear that reflected in the on-air content we are playing, because what we now have is producing a far clearer and stronger signal out of our Mount Burr transmitter site.

“Triple M also gave us 5000 CDs for our music library.

“That has been a big job for our volunteers who have been cataloguing them.”

Mr Walshaw announced two more major fundraisers planned for 2024.

In July three local music acts will perform in the Civic and Arts Centre with guests served a three-course meal throughout the evening and plans continue for the next Rock on the Rails event in December.

The Rolling Crones were announced overall winners and beat 21 other tables for the top position on the leader’s board.
