Fine weather ensured a steady stream of customers at the Millicent Showgrounds pre-Mothers Day market held on Saturday.

28 stalls were booked for the day’s trade which saw stallholders spill outside once the inside sites were booked.

Mothers were celebrated during the day with live music by Jason and Christy Wallace, a Mother’s Day raffle and free coffee available for mums.

Sally Fennell is the Millicent Show Society treasurer and alongside helping to manage the market she sells a range of potted plants and handcrafted gemstone jewellery.

It has turned into a regular family get together for Ms Fennell whose daughter Madi and mother Julie also have stalls.

“Madi wanted to get involved because she was selling some of her stuff and she likes the atmosphere, and mum saw an opportunity to sell her baked goods,” she said.

“It’s fun, I love it.

“Madi is living in Mount Gambier so I don’t get to see her as often, it’s a good time to catch up.”

The fortnightly market continues to grow and adapt since its re-launch in September 2022, with plans in place to go monthly during the winter months.

A newly introduced single free site each market day is now available for schools or community groups who are fundraising.

At Saturday’s market Newbery Park Primary School took advantage of the offer and sold 2kg bags of pink lady apples.

The apples sold out quite early with numbers taken for further orders.

All fundraising initiatives will be considered for the free site with the exception of raffles.

For further details about the free monthly site or stallholder queries phone 0459 333 560.

The next market day is on Saturday, May 18 from 10am – 2pm.
