Kalangadoo claimed the points over Hatherleigh in a tough Mid South East netball Round 9 clash on Saturday.

The game started off strong, with both sides scoring off their first centre pass and going goal-for-goal for the first term.

Wet and windy conditions saw many errors which both sides were able to take advantage of and convert.

Tight match-ups all over the court set the scene for a high-intensity game, with scores tied up at 12-all at the first break.

Both sides remained unchanged heading into the second quarter and Kalangadoo upped the defensive pressure all over the court.

Hatherleigh responded with patience and was able to work the ball down and convert.

The mid-court match-up between Jayde Peacock and Tegan Telfer started to ramp up, while Hatherleigh’s Abby Wight and Maddie Pulmer combined well and were able to find good space and convert easily.

Kalangadoo’s Abbey Duncan was a focal point for the Magpies, using her speed and accuracy, well well supported by Kristy Egan and Peacock around the circle edge.

There were tight tussles on the wings, between Georgia Hunter and Sophie Wrightson, as well as Egan and Lara MacGregor.

Hatherleigh seemed to be in control and took a one-goal lead to the main break.

Both sides remained unchanged again going into the third term, with both desperate to break away. Every ball was so tightly contested, a heavy fall to Telfer mid-way during the third term saw a short break.

The intensity then lifted but a rolled ankle to Wrightson saw her leave the court.

Reanna Wetherall took the wing defence position and Shanen Pulkkinen switched into circle

defence with Lauren Kain.

It was another even quarter, with both sides scoring nine goals each and Hatherleigh leading 34-33 at the final break.

From there the momentum swing and Kalangadoo took control.

Wrightson re-entered the game and combined well with Jayde Peacock to apply plenty of pressure to the home side.

Errors started to creep into the Eagles’ last quarter which saw Kalangadoo jump and convert fast. Hatherleigh worked tirelessly to peg back the score line, but it was too late.

After being in control and leading for three quarters, the home side could not hang on and Kalangadoo ran away with a 10-goal victory.

Best players for Kalangadoo were Duncan and Egan, while Telfer and Wight were best for Hatherleigh.
